How to grow onions at home
- Give water if whether looks dry, you need to give feed along with liquid fertilizer. Add light sulphate feed in June so that they are ready for storage.
- You can mulch the soil to conserve it and stop weed growth. Once the onions have swollen, stop water and feed. Remove mulch so that they are exposed to sun.
- Onions require sunny site with drained and fertile soil. If the ground is freshly manured, avoid planting because it can lead to rotting. Onions are suited to grow in open ground, you can grow in short rows. Plant 10cm apart, rows should be 30cm apart.
- The time suited for growing onions is from middle March to middle April, just push them on the soil so that the tip is visible. There should be firm soil around if you want your crop to be healthy. Birds can cause problems for you so it is better to remove the lose skin from the top before planting.
